The Champlain Hudson Power Express, a 339-mile buried transmission line, is scheduled to bring clean hydropower from Quebec to New York City this spring. The $6 billion project will be the longest buried transmission line in North America, capable of supplying up to 20% of the city's electricity, impacting one million customers annually.
The construction involved underwater installation of over two million feet of cable and required more than 700 land-use easements. The cable runs from the Canadian border to Queens, mostly following the Hudson River.
