Chancellor Rachel Reeves has pledged to collaborate with MP Elaine Stewart and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar to enhance the Ayrshire Growth Deal, which aims to stimulate the local economy across five sectors. Approved over five years ago with a budget of £251 million from the UK and Scottish Governments, only 5% of the funds have been utilized, with two projects currently in progress: Irvine's Great Harbour plan and the Ayrshire Innovation Park.
The significant proposal for a spaceport at Prestwick Airport was abandoned last year. Stewart emphasized the need for the UK Government to accelerate progress, citing the potential economic benefits of the deal. The Growth Deal encompasses investment in aerospace, economic infrastructure, energy, and tourism.
