Charleston City Council Approves Funding for Road Resurfacing and Wastewater Treatment Upgrades
The Charleston City Council approved funding for various infrastructure projects, including road resurfacing estimated at $1,159,000, partially funded by a $975,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Other approved projects include a $42,000 contract for landscape waste recycling, $123,101 for wastewater treatment plant upgrades by Hydro-Kinetics Corporation, and a $50,000 grant for a lead pipe inventory with Farnsworth Group. Additionally, contracts for software and communication technologies were also approved.

The Charleston City Council allocated funding for several infrastructure projects during a recent meeting. The council approved funding for road resurfacing totaling $1,159,000, with a $975,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, leaving the city to cover $184,000.
A $42,000 bid for landscape waste recycling was awarded to Whispering Pines Greenhouse & Mulch. The council also approved $123,101 for upgrading electric actuators at the wastewater treatment plant by Hydro-Kinetics Corporation.
Charleston received a $50,000 grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for a lead pipe inventory, which will be conducted by Farnsworth Group for $5,000. Contracts for technology services, including a $12,233.64 subscription to VMWare Horizon and $9,589 for Microsoft licenses, were also approved.
A memo for cooperation with the Embarrass Area Water District regarding water supply was established. Lastly, a $7,500 grant for benches at Linder Sports Complex pickleball courts was accepted.
