Charleston Completes $10 Million Upgrade to Concord Street Pump Station to Mitigate Flooding
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
Charleston's upgraded Concord Street Pump Station is now operational following a $10 million renovation designed to reduce flooding on the East Side. The station serves 240 acres and has increased its flow rate to 140,000 gallons per minute.
The upgrade included new pumps and enhanced electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring the station remained functional during construction. This renovation is part of a citywide strategy to combat flooding, with ongoing drainage projects in West Ashley and Johns Island. Future plans include a new surface collection system for Market Street to further alleviate flooding.
