Chattogram Port Authority Pilot Averts LPG Carrier Accident at Karnaphuli Channel
The Chattogram Port Authority successfully averted a potential disaster when the LPG carrier Gas Harmony experienced mechanical failure while berthing at the United Tank Terminal jetty. Assistant Harbour Master Captain Asif Ahmed intervened, using anchors and tugboats to halt the drifting vessel just 1.2 meters from the KAFCO ammonia jetty. His actions were commended by the vessel's master, highlighting effective monitoring by port officials via the Vessel Traffic Management System.

An LPG carrier, Gas Harmony, experienced mechanical failure while berthing at the United Tank Terminal jetty in Chattogram at 10:40 am, carrying 5,085 metric tonnes of liquefied gas. The vessel lost control and drifted close to the KAFCO ammonia jetty.
CPA's Assistant Harbour Master, Captain Asif Ahmed, intervened by using anchors and tugboats to halt the ship 1.2 metres from the jetty, preventing a potential disaster. The situation was monitored by senior port officials via the Vessel Traffic Management System, ensuring no major damage occurred. Captain Asif received a letter of appreciation from the vessel's master for his actions.
