Cherokee Nation Establishes Task Force to Assess Data Center Impacts on Reservation
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
The Cherokee Nation has formed a task force to analyze the impacts of data centers on its 7,000-square-mile reservation in northeastern Oklahoma. Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. signed an executive order for the nine-member group, led by Christina Justice, to assess environmental, economic, and policy effects.
The task force is expected to submit a report by June 30, 2026. Key areas of focus include current data center construction, environmental concerns, economic implications, and potential barriers to tribal mitigation efforts. The initiative aims to ensure that technology development aligns with Cherokee cultural teachings of balance and conservation.
