Chester Town Supervisor Opposes Battery Storage Projects in New Plan
Chester Supervisor Brandon Holdridge announced that battery energy storage projects will be banned in the forthcoming comprehensive plan. This decision stems from concerns over fire hazards, particularly following incidents in Warwick, despite arguments for the need for such facilities in the Hudson Valley's energy grid.

Chester's town board, led by Supervisor Brandon Holdridge, will not allow battery energy storage sites in the upcoming comprehensive plan, citing fire hazard concerns. A proposed site by AYPA Power aimed to supply 300 megawatts for four hours but faced opposition from local officials and residents.
The town's moratorium on such sites will become permanent upon plan approval. Local leaders expressed that the region requires energy storage to address grid shortfalls, while critics, including board members, emphasized safety risks. Job creation potential was highlighted by union representatives, although the project faced significant local opposition due to safety perceptions.
