Chestnut River Proposes $200M Data Center at Holyoke Site
A $200 million, 20-megawatt data center is proposed for the Hampden Papers complex in Holyoke, aiming to activate vacant land and generate significant tax revenue. The project seeks to utilize existing infrastructure and green energy resources, addressing local concerns over the impacts of data centers.

Chestnut River Power and Infrastructure is proposing a $200 million data center at the former Hampden Papers site in Holyoke, with a capacity of 20 megawatts. The project is expected to generate approximately $2 million in annual tax revenue for the city and will utilize existing structures and green energy.
Local officials, including state Sen. John Velis, have highlighted the need for data centers to manage their own utility costs. In contrast, a larger $2.75 billion data center project is planned in Westfield, drawing significantly more power.
The project at 100 Water St. benefits from Holyoke's low-cost hydropower and has access to cooling water. The site was previously owned by Green Thumb Industries and has been unutilized since cannabis operations ceased.
