Cheyenne City Council Budget Session Disrupted by Data Center Debate
The Cheyenne City Council's review of a proposed $162 million budget for fiscal year 2027 was interrupted by a conflict over data center transparency, resulting in two council members walking out. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding communication between the Planning Department and the Council amid rising public scrutiny of data center developments.

The Cheyenne City Council reviewed the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget totaling $162 million on Friday, which included presentations from various departments. A proposed $1.13 million budget for the Planning and Development Department was presented, focusing heavily on personnel costs.
Tensions escalated when Councilor Lawrence Wolfe criticized the department's lack of communication regarding data center proposals. The Downtown Development Authority's proposed budget of $283,513, reflecting a 45% increase in personnel costs, was also discussed. The budget process will continue with Committee of the Whole meetings on May 20 and June 2, leading to a final public hearing on June 8, prior to the new fiscal year starting July 1.
