Cheyenne Mayor Reports Low Water Use by Data Centers Compared to Other Industries
Cheyenne's data centers utilize significantly less water than local industries and residential irrigation. This information addresses concerns about water supply strains due to expanding data center operations.
Cheyenne's data centers currently consume a minor portion of the city's water supply compared to other local sectors, including residential lawn irrigation. Mayor Patrick Collins presented these findings to the Wyoming Legislature's Select Water Committee, aiming to alleviate concerns regarding the impact of data center growth on the area's limited water resources. The data indicates that while the industry is expanding, its environmental footprint in terms of water usage remains minimal, which may influence future regulatory decisions on water allocation.
