On January 13, 2026, the 11th Chile-EU Joint Steering Committee Meeting was held in Santiago, Chile, as part of the Agreement for Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Co-chaired by Emilie Rojas of Chile and Carole Mancel-Blanchard of the European Commission, the meeting reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Chile and the EU.
Chile presented its strategies on various topics including Artificial Intelligence, Supercomputing Infrastructure, and Lithium resources. Key cooperation areas identified include research training, space cooperation, digital advancements, life sciences, green energy transition, marine research, and astronomy.
The meeting highlighted Chile's significant role in Horizon Europe, ranking fourth among Latin American countries. The EU discussed potential topics from the Horizon Europe Work Programme and emphasized the need to strengthen Chile's National Contact Point network and explore additional funding mechanisms. Both parties expressed intentions to enhance cooperation leading to a Work Plan for future initiatives.
