Chile Inaugurates National Space Center to Enhance Space Research and Development
Chile has inaugurated the National Space Center (CEN), a 5,800-square-meter facility aimed at advancing space research and technology development. The center will enhance national capabilities through domestically produced satellites and foster collaboration among South American countries, featuring facilities such as a Mission Control Center and laboratories for technology and data science. Construction of the CEN began in May 2024, with the goal of increasing national autonomy in the space industry.

President Gabriel Boric inaugurated the National Space Center (CEN) in Chile, a 5,800-square-meter facility aimed at advancing research, development, and innovation in space technology. The center is designed to enhance Chile's capabilities in various productive sectors through domestically made satellites, improving observation and communication.
The CEN will facilitate collaboration among South American countries to further their space programs and will enable projects from basic research to operational demonstrations, increasing national autonomy in the space industry. The center includes a Mission Control Center, a Laboratory for Space Technology Development, a Data Science Laboratory with a supercomputer, and a Talent Promotion Laboratory to foster human capital in the sector. Construction began in May 2024.
