Chile Secures $460 Million Water Reuse Project in Antofagasta
Chile has finalized a $460 million investment for a water reuse facility aimed at enhancing regional water security. This project is set to establish the largest water reuse plant in Latin America, significantly benefiting the mining sector and creating over 500 jobs.

Chile has achieved financial closure on a $460 million water reuse facility in Antofagasta, awarded by Econssa under a 35-year concession. The project, expected to be the largest of its kind in Latin America, will primarily serve the mining industry, reducing reliance on freshwater sources and promoting sustainability.
Financing is provided by Banco Estado, BTG Pactual, and Banco Internacional. The facility will treat pre-processed wastewater and transport it 16 kilometers to the Salar del Carmen site, employing microtunnelling for urban crossings. Scheduled to be operational by 2028, the plant will have a treatment capacity of 900 litres per second and connect with additional pipelines to La Negra and Mantos Blancos.
