Opponents of the Palmer Project near Haines, represented by the Chilkat Indian Village, voiced their concerns during a mining conference in Vancouver. The village launched the Chilkat Forever campaign in 2024 against the project, which involves zinc, copper, gold, silver, and barite exploration.
Vizsla Copper acquired the project in November and has indicated a desire for community approval. Governor Mike Dunleavy has expressed his support for the project, stating it will enhance Alaska's mining objectives. Vizsla plans to conduct up to 10,000 meters of diamond drilling this summer and has initiated a $600,000 media marketing campaign.
