China Installs World's First 20 MW Offshore Wind Turbine in Fujian
China has successfully installed the world's first 20-megawatt offshore wind turbine in Fujian Province, marking a significant advancement in offshore wind technology. Developed domestically, the turbine is designed to be more efficient, reducing weight per megawatt by over 20%, and is expected to generate 80 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, serving around 44,000 households. This milestone reflects China's commitment to enhancing its offshore wind capabilities and supporting its low-carbon energy transition goals.

The world's first 20-megawatt offshore wind turbine was installed in Fujian Province, China, on January 13, 2026. The turbine, developed and manufactured domestically, reduces weight per megawatt by over 20% compared to the industry average.
It is located over 30 kilometers offshore in waters deeper than 40 meters and is expected to generate 80 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, meeting the energy needs of approximately 44,000 households. This installation signifies a shift in China's offshore wind development towards larger, more efficient units and aligns with the country's low-carbon energy transition goals.
