China Installs World's Largest Offshore Converter Station for Wind Energy
China's new offshore converter station aims to enhance renewable energy output, converting 6 billion kWh annually.

The installation of the world's largest offshore converter station, termed the 'Heart of Offshore Wind,' is underway at the Qingzhou offshore wind farm in Guangdong Province. This facility, featuring a ±500-kilovolt, 2,000-megawatt capacity, is designed to convert electricity from 163 wind turbines into direct current for onshore transmission.
Utilizing a float-over installation method, it addresses the limitations of domestic crane vessels due to its 25,000-tonne weight. Upon completion, it is projected to supply approximately 6 billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy each year, significantly contributing to China's energy transition goals.
