The Songyuan Green Power-Green Hydrogen-Pure Hydrogen Metallurgy Project by the China Iron & Steel Research Institute is progressing with a total investment of 11.8 billion yuan. It aims for a 1.2 million-ton-per-year pure hydrogen metallurgical output and approximately 960,000 tons of pure iron castings.

Phase I, which started on April 30, 2025, covers 450,000 square meters and includes a 600,000-ton-per-year metallurgical capacity. The project will implement a 780,000-kilowatt new energy initiative, producing around 3.07 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Upon Phase I completion, it is expected to generate 1.3 billion yuan in revenue and 75 million yuan in taxes.
