China Launches Feasibility Study for Space-Based Intelligent Computing Constellation
China's National Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense initiated a feasibility study for a space-based intelligent computing constellation. This project aims to enhance global data processing capabilities and address limitations of traditional data centers.

China has commenced a comprehensive feasibility study for a space-based intelligent computing constellation, led by the National Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. The initiative, revealed at the 2026 Space Computing Industry Conference, aims to provide continuous global coverage and real-time data processing, addressing the limitations of traditional data centers.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology plans to accelerate the development of a space computing ecosystem, including research on radiation-resistant space chips and laser communications between satellites. The shift to space-based computing is seen as essential for applications requiring low latency and reliable global service, such as disaster response and maritime observation.
