China Reaffirms Support for Guinea's Simandou 2040 Program
China's backing of the Simandou 2040 project is critical for Guinea's economic transformation, emphasizing local resource processing and job creation. This partnership is poised to enhance industrial capabilities and elevate Guinea's position in the mining value chain.

China's economic advisor, WANG Hui, highlighted the significance of the Simandou 2040 program during an April 9, 2026, press forum in Conakry. The National Transition Council of Guinea has approved the 2026-2040 socioeconomic plan, crucial for the country's transformation.
The Simandou mining project, now operational, has generated approximately 60,000 jobs, with 70% filled by Guineans. China is investing in alumina refineries with companies like SPIC and Winning Consortium Alumina Guinea, transitioning Guinea from raw bauxite exports to refined production.
Bilateral trade reached over $18 billion in 2025, marking China as Guinea's top trading partner. In agriculture, China is supporting food security through hybrid rice initiatives and technical training.
Healthcare collaboration continues with ongoing medical support since 1968 and infrastructure development, including hydroelectric projects and roads. Educational investments aim to bolster Guinea's human capital, enhancing alignment with the Simandou 2040 objectives.
