China to Reduce Green Hydrogen Costs and Expand Usage by 2030
China plans to lower green hydrogen prices to below 25 yuan ($3.6) per kilogram by 2030 through a pilot program. This initiative aims to broaden the application of green hydrogen in transportation and heavy industry, as part of a five-year development strategy. The country already has the largest operational green hydrogen capacity and targets 100,000 fuel-cell vehicles by 2030. Additionally, China's state-owned grid operators are significantly investing in infrastructure to support renewable energy, with plans to spend approximately 5 trillion yuan in electricity networks over the next five years.

China is launching a pilot program to lower green hydrogen prices to below 25 yuan ($3.6) per kilogram by 2030 as part of its five-year development plan. The initiative aims to expand the use of green hydrogen across more sectors, especially in transportation and heavy industry, with a target of 100,000 fuel-cell vehicles by 2030.
China currently has the world's largest green hydrogen capacity. Meanwhile, state-owned grid operators, including State Grid Corp. and China Southern Power Grid, are investing heavily in infrastructure to enhance renewable energy integration, with plans to spend about 5 trillion yuan in electricity networks over the next five years, following record bond issuance.
