China's First Fully Domestic 300-MW Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Operational at Huadian Wangting Power Plant
The second-phase project at Huadian Wangting Power Plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, has put Unit 5 of a 300-megawatt heavy-duty gas turbine into operation. This unit is part of a larger initiative that includes two 494-megawatt gas and steam combined cycle units, featuring the world's first 500-megawatt fully hydrogen-cooled generators.
With Unit 5 operational, the project expects to generate 2.44 billion kilowatt-hours annually, meeting the electricity needs of 2.3 million residents, while saving 200,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 900,000 tons. The project was developed through collaboration among China Huadian Group, Shanghai Electric, and other partners, overcoming key technical challenges and achieving significant innovations in autonomous control and equipment support for national energy security.
