China's Orbital Chenguang Secures $8.4 Billion in Credit for Space Data Center Initiative
Beijing Orbital Twilight Technology Co., Ltd. has obtained $8.4 billion in credit lines to support the development of space-based computing infrastructure. This funding is part of China's broader strategy to enhance its capabilities in space data centers, aiming to address the limitations of terrestrial data centers.

Beijing Orbital Twilight Technology Co., Ltd., known as Orbital Chenguang, secured 57.7 billion yuan ($8.4 billion) in credit lines from 12 financial institutions. The company also completed a Pre-A1 funding round, with participation from various investors, although the specific amount raised was not disclosed.
The Beijing Astro-future Institute of Space Technology, which incubates Orbital Chenguang, is leading a consortium of 24 organizations to develop a space data center with a power capacity exceeding 1 gigawatt. Aiming for a constellation launch by 2025, the project will focus on integrating space-based computing with Earth-based data processing by 2030.
Challenges include thermal management and economic feasibility. The initiative aligns with China's strategic goals for commercial space and may influence global developments in space data centers.
