China's renewable energy sector has demonstrated substantial growth, becoming a vital player in the global green transition. As of December 2025, the sector has led gains among A-share industries, with energy storage indices surging 58% year-to-date.

By the end of 2024, China's installed renewable energy capacity reached 1.89 TW, comprising 26% photovoltaic and 15% wind power. Renewable energy constituted 35% of total power generation in 2024, with wind and photovoltaic sources generating 1,800 TWh.

China's central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are pivotal in this transition, accounting for 52% of new renewable capacity in 2023, totaling 560 GW. Additionally, China has cultivated over 6,000 green factories and sold 10.15 million new energy vehicles in 2025. Technological advancements have significantly reduced costs, with global photovoltaic and wind power costs dropping by over 90% and 60%, respectively, since 2010, thus supporting global demand and energy system development.
