Chinese-Owned Factory Linked to Water Pollution in Battambang
A Chinese fruit processing factory in Battambang has been implicated in polluting the Treng stream, affecting 500 households. The Ministry of Environment's investigation found untreated wastewater discharge from the facility, raising concerns over local water quality and public health.

Environmental officials from Cambodia's Ministry of Environment have linked a Chinese-owned fruit processing factory to the pollution of the Treng stream in Ratanak Mondul district, impacting the water supply for approximately 500 households in the villages of Takruk and Svay Sar. The investigation revealed untreated wastewater discharge from the factory, which processes fruits and cashew nuts, and confirmed the presence of dead aquatic life in the affected waters.
Inspectors are examining the factory's wastewater treatment and environmental compliance. This incident highlights broader concerns about over 100 factories in Cambodia potentially releasing pollutants, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of environmental regulations.
