CII Proposes Development of Thoothukudi as Maritime and Manufacturing Hub
CII advocates for Thoothukudi's transformation into a maritime and manufacturing cluster, leveraging local port facilities and sustainability initiatives. This development aims to enhance Tamil Nadu's industrial competitiveness and align with green energy goals.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) recommends that Thoothukudi be established as a port-led maritime and manufacturing cluster, utilizing the V.O. Chidambaranar Port and a proposed 3,000-acre shipbuilding ecosystem.
A focus on local workforce and supply chains is essential to create a self-sustaining shipbuilding environment. Additionally, to support green hydrogen production, a subsidy to reduce costs to below $2 per kg is necessary over the next decade.
CII also calls for a Spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam and upgrades to the Mahendragiri testing center, along with a dedicated Space Corridor to connect key ISRO facilities. Establishing a Centre of Excellence in AI, ML, and Industry 4.0 is advised.
