Cincinnati Planning Commission Votes to Temporarily Regulate New Data Centers
The Cincinnati Planning Commission unanimously approved a measure to temporarily regulate new data centers for three months as the city studies permanent regulations. The proposal, directed by City Manager Sheryl Long and Mayor Aftab Pureval, aims to address the impact of data centers on local utilities and natural resources. The measure includes establishing an Interim Development Control Overlay District, requiring additional reviews by the City Planning Commission. City Council will consider the measure on Tuesday, with a potential extension for an additional nine months.

The Cincinnati Planning Commission voted unanimously to impose a three-month temporary regulation on new data centers while studying permanent regulations. This proposal, instructed by City Manager Sheryl Long and Mayor Aftab Pureval, aims to mitigate the impact of data centers on local utilities and natural resources.
The Interim Development Control (IDC) Overlay District will require additional reviews by the City Planning Commission. A study will analyze existing conditions, research best practices, and engage the public on data needs and concerns. If approved by City Council, the IDC may be extended for an additional nine months.
