Cleanergy Proposes 100MW Expansion of Green Hydrogen Plant in Namibia
Cleanergy Solutions Namibia aims to expand its Green Hydrogen Demonstration Plant from 5 MWp to 100 MWp. This upgrade includes increased battery storage to 230 MWh and the addition of a 5 MW electrolyser and ammonia plant.

Cleanergy Solutions Namibia is seeking approval for a significant upgrade to its Green Hydrogen Demonstration Plant, increasing solar generation capacity from 5 MWp to 100 MWp. The project will also expand battery storage to 230 MWh and introduce a 5 MW alkaline electrolyser, alongside a small-scale ammonia plant with a capacity of four tonnes per day.
Established as a pilot facility, the plant now operates under a 2026 Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) that aims to ensure environmental compliance and enhance local capacity. The expansion includes critical infrastructure like a flare system and water treatment plant, emphasizing the protection of local ecosystems. This development positions Namibia as a potential player in the green hydrogen market, yet it faces challenges regarding regulatory approvals and local environmental impacts.
