Co Carlow has launched a seed library pilot to offer free heritage vegetable seeds to community gardens and local growers. Participants must engage in workshops to gain access to seeds, encouraging responsible use and seed return.
The initiative includes two Grow Your Own workshops on March 21 and 28, with additional harvesting and seed saving workshops on August 8 and September 19. This project aims to foster a circular economy and enhance community resilience through local food production and reduced food miles. In a related initiative, road improvement works in the Birr/Ferbane Municipal District will receive €4.5 million for road restoration and surface dressing, enhancing safety for residents and businesses.
