Coega Green Ammonia Partners with Topsoe for $5.8 Billion Project in South Africa
Coega Green Ammonia has signed an agreement with Topsoe to utilize advanced electrolyzer technology in its $5.8 billion green ammonia project in South Africa. This strategic partnership aims to enhance hydrogen production efficiency and support the country's renewable energy ambitions.

Coega Green Ammonia will implement Topsoe's Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cell (SOEC) technology in its facility, enhancing energy efficiency for green hydrogen production. The project, located in South Africa's Eastern Cape, aims to produce green ammonia for local use and export, aligning with national goals for a competitive green hydrogen economy.
Meanwhile, Nedbank has approved a $700 million loan for Ivanhoe Mines' Platreef expansion, highlighting the banking sector's role in financing large-scale mining projects. As Africa seeks to unlock significant mineral resources, innovative financing will be essential to reduce dependency on external capital.
