Cold Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant Nears Completion with $34 Million Upgrade
The Cold Lake Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant project, valued at approximately $34 million, is in its final activation phase after over a decade of development. This facility aims to enhance treatment capacity, improve environmental performance, and accommodate regional growth, addressing stricter environmental regulations and future demands.

The Cold Lake Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently in the commissioning phase, marking a shift from construction to operational readiness. The facility, which utilizes a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) system, is being prepared to enhance wastewater treatment through media-loading, crucial for effective bacterial activity.
This technology allows for efficient treatment within a smaller footprint compared to traditional systems, supporting future residential and commercial development while adhering to environmental standards. The plant is designed to manage high nitrogen and phosphorus levels, ensuring compliance with both current and anticipated regulations for the next 25 to 50 years. Successful operation is expected to significantly improve local water quality and protect the Beaver River watershed.
