Colleton County Lawmakers Oppose Proposed 859-Acre Data Center in ACE Basin Watershed

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Seven lawmakers from Colleton County, South Carolina, are opposing a proposed 859-acre data center by Eagle Rock Partners in the ACE Basin watershed. The opposition is formalized in a resolution following a zoning ordinance amendment passed in November 2025 that allows data centers as special exceptions.

A public hearing on December 18, 2025, revealed significant community opposition. The ACE Basin, a protected coastal ecosystem, encompasses parts of Colleton, Beaufort, and Charleston counties. Local landowners have also initiated a lawsuit to block the ordinance allowing the data center approvals.
