Elk Grove Village trustees approved a $3,625,000 agreement with ComEd to purchase village-owned property at Devon and Ridge avenues for a new electrical substation. The acquisition includes six parcels, comprising village land and two parcels from Elk Grove Village VFW Post 9284.
Basic terms for purchasing the VFW properties at 400 and 410 E. Devon have been agreed upon. The VFW is seeking a new, accessible location due to the current building's design, which has multiple staircases and lacks an elevator, despite a previous installation in 2019.
Mayor Craig Johnson noted that Elk Grove Village will have four substations, with the latest to support increasing power demands from data centers and other developments, ensuring no risk of blackouts. He also mentioned that data centers are shifting to more efficient cooling methods.
