Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Allocates $1.9 Million for AI and Cybersecurity Projects in Virginia
The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative announced $1.9 million in funding for 19 cybersecurity projects across Virginia's colleges and universities, its largest program to date. The grants focus on critical infrastructure areas such as transportation, power grids, water, supply chains, and health care, with 14 projects incorporating artificial intelligence. The initiative, established in 2018, aims to foster collaboration among universities and enhance Virginia's cybersecurity capabilities.

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) has announced a funding allocation of $1.9 million for 19 cybersecurity projects in Virginia, marking its largest program to date. The funded projects focus on critical infrastructure, including transportation, power grids, water, supply chains, and health care.
Fourteen of the proposals incorporate artificial intelligence (AI). CCI, created in 2018, promotes collaboration among universities, with participants including Virginia Military Institute, Longwood University, and Virginia Tech, among others.
Virginia Tech is involved in 11 projects, including AI-driven strategies for securing power grids and detecting threats in water networks. The initiative aims to establish a foundation for future projects with national and local significance.
