On Feb. 12, residents of Martindale Brightwood opposed a proposed data center on Sherman Drive due to concerns over noise, pollution, and diesel fuel storage. Councilor Jesse Brown emphasized that the community should be prioritized, while hearing examiner Judy Weerts Hall recommended approval, claiming the public isn't her boss.
This statement drew backlash, with community leaders questioning her accountability as a city contractor. Weerts Hall, appointed in 2016 and earning $115 per hour, has faced criticism for ignoring community input, especially from local pastor Denell Howard and Brightwood Community Center director Shonna Majors. Despite previous commitments, Councilor Ron Gibson supported the project at the hearing, leading to further discontent among residents.
