In 2025, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) enhanced market research by publishing competition assessment studies in sectors including insurance, power, gold, pesticides, steel, LNG, road infrastructure, sugar, and fertilizer. The CCP established a Centre of Excellence in Competition Law (CECL) to support evidence-based policy-making and facilitate legal reforms.
The CECL is conducting studies on various industries including automobiles, civil aviation, solar energy, cement, and telecom mergers. The first Competition Assessment Study of the gold market revealed that over 90% of gold trading occurs informally, prompting a recommendation for a Gemstone and Gold Regulatory Authority.
The LNG sector study identified monopolistic practices and significant circular debt affecting competition. The CCP signed multiple MoUs in 2025 with entities such as the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia and national regulatory bodies to improve inter-agency cooperation and enforcement.
