Comprehensive Upgrades Across Campus Enhance Academic and Research Capabilities

The Swanlund Administration Building has welcomed new leadership, while Memorial Stadium is set to receive enhanced WiFi connectivity, and the menás basketball program has spurred a notable increase in Balkan student enrollment. These developments are part of a broader initiative to upgrade various campus facilities in anticipation of the upcoming academic year.

In the field of Aerospace Engineering, Professor Ioannis Chasiotis has introduced a two-stage light gas gun capable of launching projectiles at speeds exceeding 7 kilometers per second (15,658 mph). This technology aims to advance the design of materials for space shields, essential for protecting spacecraft from micrometeoroid impacts.

The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is undergoing renovations across 13 labs, including a new GMP clean room led by Dr. Mark Cohen, intended for cutting-edge research in biomedical and regenerative medicine. This facility will support the development of advanced cell therapies for clinical applications.

In a unique educational initiative, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is introducing CHEM 199: Coffee, Chemistry and the Community, an interdisciplinary course focused on coffee's chemistry and environmental impacts, complemented by a study-abroad opportunity in Panama.

The International Studies Building has been refurbished to better accommodate the anticipated influx of over 4,000 international students. Additionally, the LAS Academy for Educational Excellence aims to enhance teaching practices and mentorship among faculty.

The Roger Ebert Center for Film Studies will soon install a state-of-the-art Barco 4K projector, enhancing film presentation quality, while the Siebel School of Computing & Data Science adds a new Chemical Engineering + Data Science major to its curriculum.

Lastly, the College of Veterinary Medicine is upgrading its auditorium and addressing infrastructure issues, ensuring improved facilities for students.
