Concerns Grow Over Bessemer's $14.5 Billion Data Center Development
Residents and activists are raising alarms over the environmental and resource impacts of Project Marvel in Alabama. The data center, spanning over 1,600 acres and backed by Logistics Land Investment, has generated significant local opposition regarding transparency and sustainability.

Project Marvel, a $14.5 billion data center initiative in Bessemer, Alabama, has expanded from 700 acres to over 1,600 acres, with plans for 18 buildings. Concerns from residents and environmental advocates focus on the potential negative impacts on water resources and energy costs, given the center's dependence on water-intensive energy production methods.
Community members, including landowner Marshall Killingsworth, have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency and responses from local officials regarding over 300 inquiries submitted about the project. The use of non-disclosure agreements by city officials has further fueled distrust. Activists are urging local leaders to reject NDAs to better serve the public interest.
