During a community meeting about the Shannon to Dublin pipeline, Uisce Éireann was criticized for their lack of knowledge. The multi-billion Euro project, if approved, would extract up to 350 million litres of water daily from the Parteen Basin.
Tipperary County Councillor Phyll Bugler noted that Uisce Éireann representatives could not answer basic questions regarding the project's impact on Lough Derg and the implications during drought periods. Bugler also pointed out that a representative was unaware of local water supply sources and the capabilities of the wastewater treatment plant in Ballina.
