Concerns Rise Over Proposed Data Center Near Caddo Lake in Louisiana

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Residents near Caddo Lake in Louisiana express concerns over a proposed data center that could impact the natural resource. They learned about the project only after surveyors appeared, with plans for the center located near State Line Road and Blanchard Latex Road.

Caddo Lake, an internationally protected wetland, could face threats from the data center's potential water usage, estimated in millions of gallons daily, which may lower lake levels and harm wildlife. Concerns also include infrastructure issues, as there is no nearby wastewater treatment plant.

Local officials have not provided details, and Caddo Commissioner Chris Kracman stated he has not met with any developers. Additionally, SAC III Acquisition Co, LLC has acquired land for data centers, including 556 acres in north Caddo Parish and 255 acres in Resilient Technology Park.
