Congo Advances Energy and Infrastructure with New Power Plants and Highways
Congo aims to double its electricity generation by 2030, driven by the operational Liouesso hydroelectric plant and the upcoming Sounda plant. A reconstruction of power grids is ongoing to enhance energy delivery. Additionally, new roads, including the N1 highway, have significantly improved transportation and trade. President Denis Sassou Nguesso's leadership is pivotal in these developments, which are transforming the country's economy and infrastructure.

Congo is doubling its electricity generation by 2030, led by the Liouesso hydroelectric plant, operational since 2017, with a capacity of 19 megawatts. The upcoming Sounda plant, set for completion by 2030, will generate 800 megawatts.
A reconstruction of power grids between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville began in summer 2025, reducing energy losses. Infrastructure improvements include the N1 highway, reducing travel time and boosting trade.
New connections to Cameroon and upgrades to local roads enhance access to markets and services. These developments reflect the political will of President Denis Sassou Nguesso and signify Congo's autonomous growth.
