Constanta Emerges as Romania's Energy Hub
Constanta is solidifying its role as a pivotal energy center in Romania and the Black Sea region, as announced by Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan. This transformation is driven by significant investments in clean energy and modern infrastructure, enabling the county to lead in sustainable energy production.
During a recent inspection of construction projects, including a high-efficiency cogeneration plant, Minister Ivan highlighted the investment exceeding RON 740 million (approximately á150 million), financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and the state budget. The cogeneration plant, with an installed capacity of 97 MW, is projected to generate 52 MW of electricity and 45 MW of thermal energy, while also incorporating green hydrogen capabilities to replace natural gas. The facility is expected to be operational by summer 2024.
Additionally, the Oil Terminal, the largest of its kind in southeastern Europe, is progressing on two significant projects: a 6,000-ton bitumen terminal and a 10,000 cubic meter tank, enhancing its operational capacity. These developments aim to improve energy efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and lower operational costs. The cogeneration plant is anticipated to positively impact the local economy, enhance social welfare by improving heating access, and contribute to environmental goals by lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Minister Ivan emphasized the importance of timely project execution and effective leadership in positioning Constanta as a modern energy hub. The investments not only aim to meet current energy demands but also align with European standards for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, marking a substantial step forward in Romania's energy landscape.
In conclusion, Constanta's strategic investments in clean energy infrastructure underscore its emerging status as a regional energy leader, poised to deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits.
