Construction Begins on Energy-Integrated Data Centre in Denmark
Dansk Data Center 1 (DDC1) in Esbjerg aims to enhance local data capacity while integrating into the energy system. Backed by PensionDanmark, Thylander, and CIP, this pilot project targets efficient resource use and supports Denmark's digital infrastructure growth.

Construction of Dansk Data Center 1 (DDC1) commenced in August 2026, with completion anticipated in October 2027. This facility, a collaboration among PensionDanmark, Thylander, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), will serve as a model for energy-integrated data centres in Denmark, focusing on local energy collaboration.
DDC1 has a connection capacity of 11.5 MW to the local power grid and incorporates advanced energy management systems for optimizing consumption and reducing grid load. The project will also utilize excess heat for district heating, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. The strategic location at the NATO port enhances supply security and supports the development of a robust digital infrastructure, vital for advancing AI and digital services.
