Construction Begins on Hough Side Wetland Project to Enhance Pudsey Beck Water Quality
Construction has commenced on the Hough Side Wetland Project, aimed at enhancing water quality in Pudsey Beck by naturally treating stormwater through the creation of over 4.2 hectares of interconnected ponds. This initiative is part of Yorkshire Water's £8.3 billion investment plan, which seeks to reduce ammonia levels in the watercourse and support local biodiversity by providing new wildlife habitats. The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2028.

The Hough Side project, led by Kier and part of Yorkshire Water's wider investment in sustainable solutions, aims to enhance water quality in Pudsey Beck by treating stormwater naturally. This initiative will create over 4.2 hectares of interconnected ponds to reduce unionised ammonia levels entering the watercourse.
The project supports Yorkshire Water's £8.3 billion investment plan over five years to upgrade infrastructure and improve regional watercourses. The Hough Side wetland will also provide new habitats for wildlife, boosting local biodiversity. Construction is currently underway and is expected to be completed by Spring 2028.
