Convalt Energy Signs $6.2 Billion Agreement for Hydropower and AI Data Center in Lesotho
Convalt Energy has entered into a binding agreement with Lesotho for a $6.2 billion investment in a hydropower plant and AI data center. This project aims to produce 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy and enhance digital infrastructure in the country.

Convalt Energy's agreement with the Lesotho government represents the largest investment commitment in the nation's history, totaling $6.2 billion. It includes the development of a hydropower plant capable of generating at least 1,200 megawatts and a green energy-powered data center near the Kobong dam in Mokhotlong.
The project is expected to improve Lesotho's energy independence, reduce electricity imports, and create jobs. This investment significantly exceeds Lesotho's projected GDP of $2.27 billion for 2024. The initiative aligns with a rising global demand for reliable data center power and reflects a shift in American private capital investment in African infrastructure, traditionally dominated by Chinese entities.
