Core Scientific Inc. has been issued a $55 million building permit for a new high-performance computing facility in Auburn, Alabama. The data center, located within the AUBix facility, will start with a capacity of 16 megawatts and has an expected total investment exceeding $400 million. Core Scientific plans to retain the current workforce and expand to at least 20 full-time employees.

The company anticipates an initial investment of around $135 million, with total project costs expected to exceed $400 million, including contributions from partners. Core Scientific has leased the facility and intends to execute a purchase option, retaining 11 employees and planning to grow its workforce to at least 20. Brasfield & Gorrie is the lead contractor.
