Courmayeur Plans Pedestrian Zone and Waste-to-Energy Facility to Enhance Community Identity
Courmayeur, with a resident population of 2,024, sees visitor numbers exceed 70,000 during holidays, prompting the local government's partnership with the Cise consortium from Politecnico di Milano to develop a sustainable territorial governance plan. This plan includes immediate infrastructure improvements such as new access roads and parking, while also considering a future waste-to-energy facility to address waste management issues in Valle d'Aosta.
The project aims to preserve Courmayeur's cultural identity, enhance its appeal as a ski resort, and attract permanent residents. Additional developments may include a theater, museum, and data center. The plan envisions a fully pedestrianized Courmayeur, with construction of a new five-star hotel and residential units replacing the existing Miramonti structure.
