Coweta Planning Commission Denies Rezoning Request for Proposed Data Center Project Atlas
The Coweta Planning Commission voted 4-1 to deny a rezoning request for Project Atlas, a proposed data center on a 270-acre site, despite projected economic benefits of $195 million over 25 years and significant job creation. Community opposition focused on concerns about property values and utility costs, leading to modifications in the project's cooling system design. The proposal will be forwarded to the city council for further consideration on February 2.

The Coweta Planning Commission voted 4-1 to deny a rezoning request for a proposed data center, Project Atlas, on a 270-acre site between Highways 72 and 51-B. The developer, Beale Infrastructure, projected economic benefits, including a $195 million total impact over 25 years and $5 million in annual payments in lieu of taxes at full build-out.
Despite the anticipated creation of hundreds of jobs and infrastructure investments, including $3 million for water upgrades, community opposition was strong, citing concerns over property values and utility costs. A public hearing allowed residents to voice their concerns, with feedback leading to modifications in the project's cooling system design to an air-cooled model. The proposal will proceed to the city council for consideration on February 2.
