Croatia Launches €53.6M Tender for Battery Electric Multiple Units
Croatia's HŽ Putnički Prijevoz has initiated a €53.6 million procurement for six battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) and a hybrid charging station, aimed at enhancing sustainable rail operations. The project supports the shift towards cleaner mobility and aligns with EU funding initiatives focused on energy efficiency.

HŽ Putnički Prijevoz (HŽPP) has opened a tender for six BEMUs and a hybrid charging station, with bids due by 2 June 2026. The total contract value is estimated at €53.6 million, excluding VAT, with a 30-month implementation period starting from 1 October 2026.
The charging station will be established at Kotoriba, using a combination of grid power, photovoltaics, and a stationary battery system. Compatibility with existing rolling stock is a priority, enabling multi-unit operations to optimize lifecycle costs. Additionally, HŽPP is advancing other rolling stock projects, including a €118 million contract for 13 hybrid trains signed in July 2025.
