Cummins Designates Jamshedpur as Global Manufacturing Hub for B6.7H Hydrogen Engines
Cummins has established its Jamshedpur facility as the exclusive global manufacturing site for the B6.7H hydrogen combustion engine, aimed at construction equipment and industrial machinery. This shift illustrates India's evolution into a global manufacturing hub, with engines stamped 'Made in India' being available to customers in Europe and North America.
The company is investing over $2 billion into clean-sheet engine technology and upgrades to its manufacturing capabilities, with India as a primary beneficiary. Cummins' Technical Center in India now dedicates 70% of its capacity to global production, focusing on meeting Euro 7 emissions standards.
The company aims for a 'fuel-agnostic' platform, allowing engines to adapt to diesel, natural gas, or hydrogen. Despite challenges in sourcing high-tech sensors, Cummins is pursuing localization to mitigate global supply chain risks.
