Cumru Township Enacts Berks County's First Data Center Ordinance
Cumru Township has established the first data center ordinance in Berks County, enabling regulatory control over future developments. The new rules aim to address potential impacts from data centers, particularly in rural areas, while allowing local governance over site development.

Cumru Township commissioners approved a data center ordinance with a vote of 3-1, regulating the development of data centers within the township. The ordinance creates a designated overlay district around the former Titus Station property and imposes strict limits on noise, water, and energy consumption, along with monitoring mechanisms.
Developers must conduct environmental impact studies and ensure their utility usage does not jeopardize public health. No formal data center proposals have been submitted to date. Other municipalities in Berks County are also developing similar ordinances, indicating a trend towards increased regulation of data center projects.
